Off the shelf or over the counter insole: The material of this design is very flexible, such as gel or very thin material and it isn’t anything that is going to give you support. Some of them might be more rigid than others, has more cushioning than others and it says it support your body weight. There is nothing into it, to hold your body weight. It just a cushion. It’s good for people that want a little comfort for their shoes during walking. It is not going to support, align, and correct your foot.
In other hand, Orion foot provides a custom-made orthotics, that is a made of the shell that made of off your arch. It’s made of rigid polypropylene but still has some flexibility that is going to give you a bounce and shock absorption. The shell is determined based on your weight, your needs for orthotics, and your problem.
If you need a very stiff or firm orthotic, we will create a shell that is much firmer in material. If you need a standard support, we will provide you semi flexible that can move like suspension for your feet. We use athletic top cover that doesn’t hold too much sweat, it last longer, and its soft.
The average price of the shelf or over the counter can be purchase for under fifty or sixty dollars. The over counter insole is not made for your foot. It’s a generic shell shape or arch shape that use to make their insole.
If you have flat foot, it might be too high for you. If you have a high arch, it might be too low for you. It does not fit the arch perfectly like a custom insole would. It is not made for your foot.
It lasts only about one month vs our insole can last up to 1 to 2 years (depends on activity level, weight, and the amount of wearing).
An overall rule for over-the-counter insole is, they’re relatively conservative. They don’t want to give you something that’s too firm, too controlling, or supportive, because they don’t know who is buying it.
At Orion foot, we assets your foot, and review your history and we know what your foot need. How much your foot needs to be correct, how much motion your foot needs, and how much padding should be added.
Our patients love Orion Foot because, it’s customized to your feet, convenient (no transportation and free shipping), and time consuming (you will receive your Orion foot orthotics within two week). Each orthotic contains Multiple modification, that are only available with a licensed medical provider’s prescription.
It’s important to note, though, that Orion Foot uses the material and design like those available in other prescription custom fabrication orthotics.
If you have tried various combinations of prescription foot orthotics and they have not been successful, you may want to continue working with your current podiatrist. They may decide to try different orthotics options.
The prescription custom orthotics at the offices cost about $500 plus health care provider’s visit cost vs Orion Foot insole which is only $195.

So many companies might offer you an insole where you step on pad or sensor (in the store). It determines where your pressure is and then it gives you the right number for your insole That is not a true 3D scan either.
That is a pressure mat telling you where your pressure is. So, the goal of that insole is to put out the padding where you are putting the most pressure and it can kind of decide whether if you a have a low arch or high arch, depending where the pressure is on your foot. If you a flat foot, a pressure map would show the whole thickness of your footprint. If you a very high arch, more pressure on the ball of your foot the heel, and maybe that a little bit of a typical foot pattern. Based on that pressure scan, they decide what kind of insole you need but it’s still not a custom-made insole.
A lot of the times a good over the counter insole that has a little bit more support and cushioning can give you relief. They might have some arch support but not enough padding. Some has a lot of padding but not enough arch support.
The difference with the Orion Foot custom made insole is that we get the impression of your feet to create a mold of your foot. After we receive the impression of your feet, we use 3D scanner that captures all around your foot creating a high-quality image of your arch, bottom, and side of your foot.
This allows us to create a shell that perfectly fits into your arch. By having something that is more customize to your foot, it just means that is going be better fit and that our providers who design and prescribing your orthotics can make it in a certain way that best fits your need. When you buy something over the counter or custom fit it is generic fit that it has some feature that might be good for you, but not others.
That is true difference with a custom-made insole. It is prescription and the fabrication of insole based on the mold of your foot.
If you have been trying these over-the-counter insoles and it’s not working for you, that’s the sign that you need to custom made insole.
